Anzac Biscuit Recipe
Anzac Biscuits are a sweet biscuit have been made in Australia for generations. They are very popular and one batch doesn’t ever seem to last long enough.
These biscuits are very easy to make with very little preparation. I have a few basic ingredients in my house at all times, so if the need arises I can quickly mix up a batch and put them onto cook. These come in very handy for school lunches, a sweet treat with a cuppa or to have at home for the family.
Mothers and wife’s made Anzac Biscuits to send to their sons and husbands that were fighting in World War I. Food parcels were sent, and these were a popular choice. They are cheap to make, don’t take long to prepare or cook and are guaranteed to taste great.
The recipe I have listed has been used in my family for three generations that I am aware of. Differing recipes have been given to me, and they seem to vary slightly. It is up to you and personal preference on taste. Try substituting extra oats or coconut to replace some sugar if you prefer it not to taste as sweet.
Texture for Anzac Biscuits is very important, ensure your oven is not too hot so they don’t bake too quickly and to avoid additional colour. I prefer my biscuits to cook between 15-20 minutes. Generally 15 minutes is great for softer biscuits and the last 5 minutes will make great crunchy biscuits. If you have kids and grandparents, make up on to 2 trays and remove one tray a little earlier.

Anzac Biscuits Recipe
1 cup or 250 grms rolled oats
1 cup or 250 grms plain flour
1 cup or 250 grms sugar
3/4 cup or 175 grms coconut
2 tablespoons(T) golden syrup
1/2 teaspoon (t) bicarb soda
1 T boiling water
After getting a handle on this recipe, double the mixture.
1. Grease a few trays and turn oven to 180*C (160*fan forced)
2. Combine oats, flour, sugar and coconut-set aside
3. Melt butter and golden syrup in a container (not plastic) large enough to fit all the dry ingredients also.
4. Combine boiling water and bicarb in a cup or bowl
*Add 3 & 4 together (will bubble)
4. Quickly add the dry ingredients.
5. Spoon small amounts onto tray. Press with fork as these spread widely. Cook slowly. 15-20mins.
6. Leave on baking trays a few minutes, loosen all, then lift onto a cooling rack to harden.
